TORONTO, CANADA, October 10, 2011 – Today, Gulfstream Aerospace Corporation introduced its newest electronic document management (EDM) system, PlaneBookTM for iPad, the first application of its kind produced by an original equipment manufacturer – within the aerospace industry.
The application, available in the Apple App Store, provides pilots easy and immediate access to critical flight information via subscriptions to aircraft-specific documents, including the Airplane Flight Manual, Operating Manual, Pilot Checklist and the Quick Reference Handbook (QRH). The electronic version of the QRH, which includes emergency flight procedures, serves as the master document that links to all other documents for easy cross-referencing.
“This is a first as far as the business aviation industry goes – and I’m sure it will be very closely watched by other industry players” says Rajat Opal, CEO of Gazoo Mobile the software firm behind the development of the app.
“Gulfstream embraced electronic document management and the concept of a paperless cockpit with the introduction of PlaneBook in 2007,” said Randy Gaston, Vice President, Flight Operations, Gulfstream. “Now we’re taking it to the next level. With a subscription to the iPad application, operators will automatically receive update notifications, ensuring they have the very latest information about our aircraft.”
The application also works offline. Users who don’t have an Internet connection can browse publications they have already downloaded. They can also load their personal documents into the app for enhanced productivity and convenience.
“Pilots can create and store their own checklists, standard operating procedures or other reference materials, tailoring their content to their personal flying habits,” said Randy Gaston, Vice President, Flight Operations, Gulfstream.
The application also contains Gulfstream news and videos. A paid subscription is required to download publications. The app is downloadable at http://itunes.apple.com/ca/app/gulfstream-planebook/id425706349?mt=8&ls=1.
